Threading is a fun activity that able to nurture our child’s concentration if it is carried out repeatedly. What is threading? It is certainly not the ancient method that is used to remove facial hair in beauty salons that I’m referring to. It is using a shoe lace spooling through some large beads as an introduction of the activity to younger children. It is one of the activity that can occupy your child and most children love this activity.
Materials
- shoe lace
- large beads/pastas
Benefits of threading beads among children :
- To promote concentration. The child needs to put focus and concentration so that he is able to spool the shoelace through the hole of a bead.
- To reinforce the child’s fine motor skills. The child needs to learn to control his finger movements as well as hand-eye coordination in order for him to succeed his movement.
- To cultivate self-control and confidence within a child through his repetition of the same activity.
We can also use straws and cotton string to make a necklace or bracelet as another activity. You can use either large straws or small straws depend on your child’s skills. My children enjoys making necklace for their mummies. Don’t you think is sweet?
When the child is able to control and master his fine fingers movement, we can challenge the child’s ability by using string and small beads. The colorful beads attracts the child to work with the activity. I have a 3 years old girl who can’t sit still in the class. When I introduced her to the activity, she was attracted to it. she was so engrossed to it that she was able to extend her concentration span. Whenever she works with this activity, it is able to get her full attention. By repetition, she will be able to build a sense of self-control.
I do hope your child enjoy the activites at home or school.
