Chinese New Year is just around the corner. I have been very very busy with school as it’s a new school term. There are lots of planning and organizing of curriculum as well as building a strong bond with the new group of children. Two newly joined children are having some difficult time to adapt to the new environment. Crying, screaming and shouting from children are usual in the school environment in the beginning of each new term. I am trying my best to organize my time to keep posting…it is a challenging year indeed!
As Chinese New Year is approaching soon, why not we get our child to make a Chinese New Year greeting card for the festival? It is one of the many festivals that the world is celebrating. Therefore, do not miss the opportunity to tell your child about this wonderful festivals that celebrated by the Chinese around the world! At the same time, we cultivate a sense of caring towards other people around us and teaching the child to express his care towards the other party with a festive greeting card!
Lets begin by preparing the materials that we need for the day!
- Red A4 size colored paper
- Corrugated paper (red or pink in color)
- Red packet
- glue
- scissors (ensure it is a child size scissors if the child is doing the cutting)
- glitter glue
- red glass peper
Use the scissors to cut the corrugated paper into small pieces (around 2cm width x 3cm height). Roll the small piece to make a small roll that looks like firecracker. If you like your child to do the cutting, then you need to draw out the shape on the corrugated paper in order for the child to cut along the lines. Get your child to roll it. Ensure you put some glue to stick the end of each roll.
I have chosen a gold colored Chinese New Year packet with the word “blessing”. I will cut it out in a square shape. If you want your child to cut it on his own to reinforce his fine motor skills, you may just draw a square line around the world and ask your child to cut along the line.
Fold the A4 red paper into half. Use a black pen to outline a bundle of firecrackers. Paste the gold packet that is cut earlier on the top left corner of the folded paper. Then paste the firecracker rolls that made out from corrugated paper on the black lines accordingly. Paste few tiny pieces of glass paper around the card. Put the card aside to allow the excess glue to dry. Once it is dry, apply a little glitter glue on top of the firecracker rolls. Let it dry again!
Here you are - a nice Chinese New Year greeting card! Write few words of greeting inside the card! Once you have done, just post it out with stemps! Your loved one will be glad to receive a special card from our little one! This post is my 100th post! Yeah! Happy Chinese New Year!
