Year 2009 is approaching just in 3 days. I spent time looking back on projects that I have done for the past whole year in the weekend. I learned a lot through the journey. I learned to handle children with more care and understanding. Most of all, I’m grateful to be able to work with different children through out the year 2008. Now I’m looking forward to year 2009 as I have a new group of children. I have plans for them and I can’t wait to begin…
What about you? What do you plan for your child? We may plan for his education, school, child care/nursery etc. Do remember that we need to begin within ourselves and our home. Make a commitment that we will :
- spend quality time with our child.
- listen to our child.
- talk to our child.
- hug our child.
- love our child unconditionally, without spoiling him.
- be patient with our child in their development.
- fulfill our child’s real needs.
Making commitment is just meant changing our old habits. When we like our child to change certain behavior, we are trying to help him cultivate good habit within himself. A strong bond with our child makes everything possible!
What about the home environment? Improving our home environment that suitable enable us to lead our child to positive development. Maria Montessori stated that a child needs a clean and organize environment for his development. When we are organized, the child will imitate and learn to be organized as well. So lets begin with the cleaning up. Make more space for our child to move around. Provide a play corner, book corner and learning corner (child size table and chair). He is encouraged to freely enjoy his private time at the provided corner as much as he likes. We are cultivating good learning habit and good character building e.g. independent, responsible, high self-confident and self-esteem and so on.
I wish you have an enjoyable new year celebration with your family and friends. Let us welcome year 2009 with more faith and hope! Happy New Year!
