“Rudolf the red nose reindeer, have a very shiny nose, and if you ever see it, you would even say it glows….”, does your child likes this song during Christmas festival? Well, if your child has yet to expose to this song, you may nurture your child’s Christmas spirit by starting with this beautiful song!
While playing the beautiful song, lets make our very own red nose reindeer with our child during the weekend.
Objective of the activity
- Cultivate the spirit of Christmas within the child
- Refine fine motor movement and control
- Build a stronger and closer bonding between the adult and the child
- Fulfill the child’s free time with beneficial activities that improves his knowledge as well as his physical development
- Promote creativity
Guidelines
First of all, we need to prepare the materials that we need to use in this activity :
- poster color
- sponge
- container
- scissors
- white painting paper
- red crepe paper
- colored paper - brown, blue and black
- scissors
- glue
- plastic table mat or newspaper
- wet cloth for wiping
Children love sponging of colors. Protect the table or floor with a plastic mat or newspaper. Let your child choose the color he wants. Sponge the color on the painting paper with a sponge. Leave it dry at one corner.
Take out the brown colored paper. Ask your child to put his foot on top of the paper. Help him to trace his foot accordingly with a pencil. Cut the shape out with a scissors. If your child is able to do cutting, you may let your child practice his handling of scissors.
Option : You can also use another painting paper and asked your child to sponge different color on it, instead of buying brown colored paper. The sponging activity will be able to prolong the child’s concentration span.
Roll the red crepe paper into a round ball. Cut the blue colored paper into 2 circles and then cut two smaller circles on the black paper. Paste the black circle onto the blue circle. Repeat the step for the other set. If your child is very competent in cutting with scissors (above 5 years old), you may let your child cut the shapes out with a child-size scissors.
Check if the sponged paper is dried. Ask your child to put his hand on the paper and help him to trace. You may try asking him to trace by himself. Cut out the shapes accordingly.
The shapes are ready and we may proceed to the last step - pasting! First, paste the hand shapes at the back of the foot shape. The hand shapes represent the horns on the head. Paste the eyes and followed by the red nose.
Our final product! Use a marker pen to draw a smiling lips. Hang it on the wall or on the front door. I like it! Tell the story about the Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer after the activity!
